The
light was behind her so her face was dark.
She
was sitting with her arms locked, leaned back, supporting herself, and there
was something instantly attractive and fascinating about her—that shadow of a
woman garbed in a blue dress.
I
shifted my position, stood up, walked across the patio and sat down beside her.
She looked at me, smiling, and I saw that she was gorgeous. Her hair was thick
and wild and rich and her eyes were deep, flashing like twin moons above full
lips and a razor sharp smile.
I
was instantaneously cut.
So
I asked her if she wanted to go for a walk, and I’ll never forget crawling into
my bed later on that night and thinking—I
have to wake up in 4 hours.
We’d
stayed out that late, walking,
talking along the beach, and the next morning I left for Fraser Island and she
left for Noosa—and four days later I used the last of my available credit to
buy a bus ticket and follow her.
I
arrived in Noosa at 12:40 in the afternoon.
It
was raining.
